Alexandria, Va.- Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P. is pleased to announce the election of fe new partners-, Colin B. Harris, James R. Love, Johnny Ma and Marina I. Miller, Ph.D.- effective January 1, 2014.
The diverse backgrounds and technical knowledge of the new partners range from pharmaceuticals and medical devices, to electrical, computer, and mechanical-related technologies. Their practices touch all aspects of IP law, including counseling, prosecution, and litigation before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, federal district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
The firm is also pleased to announce the elevation of two new senior associates- Yuki Onoe and Robert Tarcu
New Partners:
Colin B. Harris focuses his practice on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in many fields, including automotive and aerospace technologies, packaging, consumer electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, and medical devices. Mr. Harris also provides client counseling, including clearance reviews and infringement and validity opinions for utility and design patents. Mr. Harris holds a J.D. from George Mason University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia.
James R. Love focuses his practice on drafting and prosecuting patent applications for clients in technological areas such as computer software, telecommunications, networking, wireless technologies, semiconductors, encryption, medical devices, computer hardware, and device UI technologies. Mr. Love also has experience preparing patentability and infringement opinions as well as drafting and prosecuting defense- and government-based applications. Mr. Love holds a J.D. from the College of William and Mary and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (minor in mathematics) from Cedarville University.
Johnny Ma represents clients in protecting their core technologies and obtaining patents for various standards. Mr. Ma drafts and prosecutes patent applications relating to a wide range of technologies including printers, cameras, displays, networking, wireless communications, semiconductors, power devices and information processing. Mr. Ma’s practice also includes invalidity and non-infringement opinions, patent portfolio development and post-grant proceedings. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Patent Examiner in interactive video distribution systems at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Mr. Ma holds a J.D from George Mason University School of Law and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia.
Marina I. Miller, Ph.D., focuses on chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology patents. Her practice includes all phases of patent prosecution, client counseling, opinions, and patent reexamination proceedings. Prior to joining Oblon Spivak, Dr. Miller served as a Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and worked at the IP litigation department of a leading national law firm and as a research scientist at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology in Maryland and Cornell Medical College. Dr. Miller holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, a Ph.D. from the Institute of Genetics and Selection of Industrial Microorganisms (Moscow, Russia), and a M.S and B.S. from Moscow Physics-Engineering Institute (Moscow, Russia).
