USPTO Announces Update on Interactions with Rospatent

  • Firm News

Further to our previous communication of March 23, 2022, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued a brief update on May 5, 2022, regarding interactions with the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent).

Specifically, the USPTO stated that “the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) published General License No. 31, which authorizes certain intellectual property-related transactions in Russia, including the filing and prosecution of any application to obtain a patent, trademark, or copyright, as well as renewal and maintenance fees.”  A copy of General License No. 31 is available here:  https://home.treasury.gov/system/files/126/russia_gl31.pdf

The USPTO’s update indicates that any questions regarding General License No. 31 should be directed to OFAC.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
