Joint Symposium on U.S. and European Patent Practice - Important Aspects for Practitioners - Spring 2025
At the 2025 joint symposium, we will together examine selected current aspects of protecting innovations in the U.S. and in Europe considering both pre- and post-grant perspectives.
While similarities exist, applicants for U.S. and European patents need to be aware of the peculiarities and most recent developments in each system in order to achieve the best results. Thus, please join us to learn about recent developments and current aspects of IP practice in the U.S. and Europe.
In particular, the symposium will address the following important topics for today’s practitioners:
1. News from the Unified Patent Court: Case Law overview
2. Machine learning model deployment invention - a case study
3. EPO Enlarged Board of Appeal on prior art status of commercial products - G 1/23
4. U.S. practice on beta versions of software as prior art and U.S. view on G 1/23 like cases
5. Open-ended ranges and parameters at the EPO – is the claim reproducible or not?
6. Claiming and disclosing open-ended ranges from the U.S. perspective
Presentations will be held in Japanese or English, and translation from English into Japanese will be provided.
Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided at a casual reception following the symposium.
