Peifang Tian, Ph.D. is a technical advisor in the firm’s Electrical and Mechanical Practice Group. Prior to joining Oblon, Dr. Tian has worked in academia for twelve years, first at University of California, San Diego as an Assistant Project Scientist and then at John Carroll University as an Assistant and Associate Professor.  She also gained industrial R&D experiences as an optical engineer at the Global Research Center of General Electric. As a result, she has extensive research and engineering experiences in organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), optical systems, biomedical imaging and its applications in neuroscience research.

In particular, Dr. Tian has extensive research experience and knowledge in optical systems and biomedical imaging including endoscopes. She built intrinsic optical imaging and laser speckle imaging apparatus using both free-space and fiber optics. She conducted neuroscience research (the relationship between local cerebral blood flow and brain function) using advanced optical imaging methods (two-photon microscopy, intrinsic optical imaging, laser speckle imaging and voltage sensitive dye imaging), which is crucial for preventing and curing stroke and dementia.

Dr. Tian holds US, European, and German patent(s) for her work on OLEDs and holographic data storage. She has more than twenty peer-reviewed publications. Her work on a new ultrafast laser spectroscopic technology was considered a significant achievement in the field and published in Science.
