Colin Downey, Ph.D. is an associate in the firm’s Chemical Patent Prosecution practice group, focusing on patent preparation and prosecution for domestic and international clients in various technical areas, such as biotechnology, recombinant DNA technology, genetics, immunology, enzymology, genomics, and pharmaceuticals.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Downey completed his J.D. at Indiana University – Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He completed an externship within the patent group at Eli Lilly and Company. While at Lilly, he worked with the legal department on the company’s latest focus for its intellectual property portfolio and assessed patentability. Additionally, he worked at Indiana University’s Innovation and Commercialization Office evaluating intellectual property matters. While at Indiana University’s tech transfer office, he provided assistance in protecting and commercializing IU-based inventions.
Prior to law school, Dr. Downey completed a Ph.D. in Vision Science with a General Background in Neuroscience. His Ph.D. focused on visual development, neural pathways, neuronal signaling, feedback mechanisms, neural anatomy, and data computation and analysis. Dr. Downey has a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Neuroscience focus from Wabash College. While at Wabash, he also completed coursework in Biology and Chemistry.
