STEVEN (STEVE) B. CHANG is a patent attorney who prosecutes patents in the firm’s Electrical and Mechanical Patent Prosecution practice groups. Mr. Chang has experience in a diversity of technical areas, including aerospace technologies, automotive technologies, semiconductor processing, and consumer electronics. He regularly conducts interviews with United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Examiners to expedite the prosecution of patents.

Prior to joining Oblon, Spivak, Mr. Chang worked at Pratt & Whitney as both a Senior Structures Engineer, specializing in finite element analysis and fracture mechanics, and a Patent Liaison in aftermarket engineering. As a Senior Structures Engineer, Mr. Chang analyzed and designed commercial and military jet engine components, such as compressor and turbine rotors, blades, stators, vanes, shafts and cases, to meet structural integrity and Federal Aviation Administration safety requirements. Mr. Chang led the structural and lifing analysis for life-limited parts in the Global Material Solutions (GMS) program and was nominated for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Engineer of the Year award for his contributions to the GMS program. As a Patent Liaison, Mr. Chang evaluated and assessed the impact of patents on programs within aftermarket engineering and provided strategic guidance to the engineering staff. 

His technical experience also includes an internship with GE Power Systems, performing structural and heat transfer finite element analyses to ensure dynamic performance of new design industrial gas turbines, and serving as a member of the Cornell University Hybrid Electric Vehicle (CUHEV) team.
