RONALD (RON) A. RUDDER, Ph.D., is a patent prosecution attorney in the firm's Electrical Patent Prosecution and Patent Interferences practice groups. He focuses on nanotechnology, advanced electronics, advanced materials for electronics, semiconductor materials and processing, scientific instrumentation, laser and imaging technologies, and vacuum technology. Dr. Rudder has a deep understanding of technologies gleaned from 13 years of experience as a Senior Research Engineer at the Center for Semiconductor Research with the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina. He also holds a Ph.D. in physics and is a former adjunct professor of chemical engineering.

Dr. Rudder’s ability to synthesize scientific information and complex technologies ensures that his clients’ patent applications are finely crafted, resulting in approval of the broadest, most viable patents. Skilled at identifying unanticipated uses for client innovations, he guides his clients in creating a range of patents to cover those uses.

Dr. Rudder represents clients ranging from emerging entities to large domestic and foreign corporations, and is particularly adept at asserting group prosecutions and addressing the interplay of patents. He has written more than 50 publications and possesses seven U.S. patents in the fields of materials processing and deposition for advanced semiconductor devices and packaging.

A cofounder of Specified Surfaces and Interfaces, Inc. devoted to the development and licensing of diamond pyroceramic thin-film coatings, he was a member of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-sponsored U.S. delegation to Japan in 1990, which assessed Japan’s diamond technology.
