For Immediate Release
November 1, 2011
Alexandria, Va. – Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P. proudly announces that patent reexamination specialist Greg Gardella is joining the firm’s post grant patent practice team as a partner. He most recently was the director of Irell & Manella's reexamination practice.
Mr. Gardella leverages his extensive litigation background to focus on adversarial post grant USPTO proceedings. A distinguished reexamination specialist, he has handled a significant amount of high-profile patent reexamination disputes, such as the noteworthy defense of the famous TiVo time warp patent. The successful defense of the TiVo patent reexamination led to a $500 million dollar licensing settlement with rival EchoStar.
“Our post grant practice group is noted as having recovered more high value patents from reexamination over the last few years proceedings than any other. Greg will fit right in with our team of prominent practitioners, and we’re absolutely thrilled to have him, as our clients will benefit enormously from his insights and experience,” said Oblon Spivak Managing Partner Richard Kelly.
In joining forces with the Oblon Spivak post grant team, Mr. Gardella rounds out a roster of highly regarded specialists including former USPTO Deputy Commissioner for Patent Examination Policy Stephen Kunin, former Administrative Patent Judge Lee Barrett, as well as prominent post grant specialist and commentator Scott McKeown.
