Oblon Professionals Partnered with AIPPI･JAPAN
On September 14, 2018 eight Oblon professionals partnered with AIPPI - JAPAN (The international Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property of Japan) to present an AIPPI ITC Seminar. The seminar was held at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology Tokyo Toranomon Campus.
The seminar included a mock ITC (U.S. International Trade Commission) evidentiary hearing or trial where Oblon's professionals Robert Mattson, Yuki Onoe, Yorikatsu Hohokabe, Ph.D., CLP, Eric W. Schweibenz, Stephen G. Baxter, Ph.D., Jacob A. Doughty, John S. Kern and Alexander B. Englehart each played separate roles in order to demonstrate to the audience how these increasingly popular Section 337 patent infringement investigations typically proceed.
Robert Mattson provided background information on the ITC and also served as a commentator throughout the seminar to summarize the events and key takeaways for the attendees. Yuki Onoe, Resident Partner of Oblon's Tokyo office said, "Attendees were obviously engaged in the event", and credited a step-by-step translation from English to Japanese, in part, for the event's success. Yorikatsu Hohokabe, Senior Advisor in Oblon's Tokyo office added, "Attendees included representatives from major Japanese companies, Japan Patent Office examiners as well as several patent/law firms."
